Portrait of Ange Pacreu

About me

I'm Ange, an IT technician who started in work-study at 16 and grew into deployment and on-site technician roles across systems, networks and telecom. Now on the Epitech Montpellier MSc track to become an information systems architect, I spend my free time building open-source, self-hosted infrastructure, from my homelab to porting /e/OS to my own phone.

How I work

I own my stack, end to end. Open source, self-hosted and privacy-first, from my homelab to my de-Googled phone. I'd rather build a system and understand it than rent a black box.

Secure and reproducible by design. Least privilege, nothing exposed except through one reverse proxy or a tunnel, encryption per user, and the docs as the source of truth. My standard: git pull, docker compose up, and it runs.

Root cause first, but pragmatic. I dig until I find the real problem, whether it's a faulty SATA cable or the actual state of a bootloader. When I need to keep moving, I'll use a stock build or make a deliberate exception, then come back and fix it properly.

Strengths

  • Troubleshooting: from L1 support to escalations, I'm used to finding the real cause under pressure.
  • Range: from soldering a board to deploying a monitoring stack or writing an API.
  • Learning fast: I pick up a new tool by deploying it, not by reading about it.
  • Explaining: I can present a technical choice to a team and argue for it.

What I'm improving

  • Software design at a larger scale: moving from scripts and small services to architecture.
  • Testing and CI: making "it runs" mean "it's tested" too.
  • Finishing the polish: documenting and wrapping up a project before I jump to the next one.

Interests

  • Self-hosting and homelab: Docker, reverse proxies, VPN, monitoring.
  • 3D printing: Klipper, Mainsail, and tracking my filament spools with Spoolman.
  • Android: building and porting custom ROMs (/e/OS, LineageOS) to my own devices.
  • Robotics and IoT: experimenting with ROS 2 and ArduPilot in simulation, and LoRaWAN sensors.

Inspirations

  • The open-source projects I rely on daily, and the people who maintain them for free.
  • The self-hosting community, for showing that you can run your own services without a big company.
  • The e Foundation and LineageOS, for proving a phone can be useful without being a tracker.
